Turtle Village

Digital painting of the background for Golden Axe artwork I have been doing for some time. This is a fantasy scene based on a similar drawing I did years ago. I made the landscape slightly alien in appearance with a distant castle that looks inviting and ruins on the cliffside with the great eagle landing. The village is deserted being early morning and a tranquil river flowing from the mountains in the distance.

I used a lot of reference images of beautiful landscapes from Montana and Canada.

It was completed using my usual process of blocking in black and white then adding details and noise and texture to hide mistakes. I added colour last but made it washed out on purpose so I didn't need to spend a lot of time colouring and detail.

The painting took around 25 hours in total. It could do with detail and perspective + depth fixing as it doesn't look right, however, the backdrop will mostly be covered by a montage of characters.
